Exceeding a balloon's rated burst pressure risks balloon rupture within the vessel, while underinflating may fail to adequately treat the lesion or properly deploy an accompanying stent. The gauge on an inflation device gives the operator the real-time feedback needed to stay within this intended pressure window throughout the inflation.
